Pursue The Opportunities Presented By New Realities

Evolution of broadband technologies is rapidly transforming from silo-based approaches - where each technology type is assessed separately - towards more holistic and service-based approaches and ´vertical´ service offerings.

Focus is shifted from technical metrics toward subscriber expectations and needs - subscriber QoE makes the real difference!

Build an AX Innovation Engine and pursue the strategic opportunities presented by new realities!

Use Case: QoE Service Monitoring

Abstract

Executive Summary

Due to rapid growth of triple play service offerings, effective QoS Management is already today a key feature for ISPs. When transforming business from "triple play broadband" to "application enabled broadband" QoE Service monitoring is a fundamental requirement.

End-to-end service quality monitoring of subscriber services is an issue that is highly related to the changing and dynamic environment of these services.

It is straightforward to be understood as well complex and stimulating to be implemented in real IT systems. The complexity is mainly due to the difficulty of its modeling, evaluation, and translation. Whereas QoS can be easily measured, monitored and controlled at both the networking and application layers and at the end-system and network sides, the quality of experience is something that is still quite intricate to be managed.

QoE service management encompasses the following activities:

  • monitoring of the experience of the user when consuming the service,
  • adapting service provisioning on the basis of the varying context conditions (e.g. network status, user behavior, user profile, environment),
  • predicting potential experience level degradation and
  • masking quality degradation due to abrupt system changes.

To have a complete control of the final user experience, all these tasks need to be performed in a coordinated way.
