Axiros just Announced the Launch of the New Release of TR-369/USP Controller - AX USP 3.2
Scalable, and Secure Connectivity for Millions of Devices with the Universal USP (TR-369) Controller
July 03, 2025 - MUNICH, GERMANY - Telecommunications software leader Axiros today announced its launch of version 3.2 of the AX USP Controller (and associated tools).
AX USP 3.2 introduces a refined buffering strategy in the notification handler. This enhancement allows operators to set a maximum memory threshold for the buffering of outgoing messages. Also, the queuing behaviour has changed, dropping old notifications instead of back-pressuring the downstream. This will ensure that the backend always has the freshest possible data to work with, even after heavy congestion and outages.
Several other important enhancements are included in AX USP 3.2:
Prometheus Metrics Support: Rhai-handlers can now expose metrics via an OpenMetrics-compatible HTTP endpoint for integration with Prometheus
Readiness & Liveliness Endpoints: New HTTP endpoints added to both usp-controller and rhai-handler to support orchestration and health monitoring
Improved MQTT v5 Support: EndpointID information from the CONNECT packet is now inspected to accelerate delivery of Connect notifications
Accompanying this USP Controller release is the enhanced load generator, which now supports custom USP Message handling via Rhai scripting. This new capability, made possible by our open-source rhai-rusp crate, adds powerful scripting features to our large scale USP Agent simulator and load generator. Whether you're executing straightforward test scenarios, complex onboarding flows, or scheduled large scale notification generation, Rhai scripting allows for quick customisation while preserving full control. We’re also providing out-of-the-box example scripts to get you started quickly, including one that fully supports AXESS’s default onboarding process.
“This release provides more telemetry options and better behaviour in the field, especially when the backend experiences hiccups. And to ensure that bottlenecks are detected before moving to production, we vastly improved our USP load generation tool, too”, said Daniel Egger, Product Owner of AX USP and Program Stream Lead for Data modelling in the Broadband Forum.
Axiros AX USP supports millions of concurrent USP Agents connected via WebSocket or MQTT MTP in a single process. The Controller was developed from scratch in a memory-safe language for safety and speed. It supports all features specified in the latest TR-369 specification and most features currently defined in the specification process. AX USP interfaces seamlessly with all current and future Axiros products, thereby providing a seamless upgrade path for existing installations.
