Axiros Releases AX USP Controller 3.5.0 with Key Gains in Security Efficiency and Operator Flexibility

April 22, 2026 – MUNICH, GERMANY – Telecommunications software leader Axiros today announced the release of version 3.5.0 of the AX USP Controller (and associated tools). AX USP Controller is a high-performance, memory-safe solution designed to manage millions of concurrent USP (User Services Platform) Agents via WebSocket or MQTT. Fully compliant with the latest Broadband Forum standards, it provides service providers and device manufacturers with the scalability, flexibility, and reliability required for modern large-scale device management.

With version 3.5.0, Axiros introduces key enhancements focused on performance stability, security efficiency, and expanded integration capabilities.

This release delivers several important improvements:

  • TLS handshake rate limiting: A new rate-limiter allows operators to control the number of concurrent TLS handshakes in progress. As TLS handshakes are CPU-intensive, this feature helps prevent system instability caused by prolonged peak CPU usage, ensuring more predictable performance under load.

  • Optimized cryptographic performance: Enhanced performance for RSA signatures and signature verification on processors supporting AVX512 instructions improves efficiency in secure communications.

  • Preview support for NATS NBI: Version 3.5.0 introduces preview support for a NATS-based Northbound Interface (NBI), offering an alternative to the existing HTTP (REST) interface. This approach removes the need to address specific Controller nodes when interacting with USP Agents, simplifying communication patterns. As support across other Axiros products is still in progress, this feature is currently available in a preview phase and will be further stabilized in future releases.

In addition to these highlights, the release includes a range of updates and optimizations:

  • Updated dependency of librdkafka in the notification handler (rhai-handler), delivering multiple bug fixes

  • Migration of distribution images to Docker Hardened Debian base images

  • Extended notification capabilities, enabling delivery to multiple Redis streams via rhai scripts

  • Added alive and ready TCP probes to the notification forwarder (ws2ws)

  • General performance optimizations and dependency upgrades

By terminating the TLS connection in a USP aware application, we can offer pristine conformance to the USP specification while maintaining maximum flexibility. With this new release, we reaffirm our commitment in providing solutions that excel in efficiency, security and stability.”, said Thales Fragoso, Product Owner of AX USP at Axiros.
